Blocky Blockade: Stellar Overload's new alpha version is now live!

I am proud to announce that you can now download the third alpha version of Stellar Overload (build number 0.8.4.0). This is the last version before the Steam early access release.

 


In this new version you will be able, alone or with your friends, to:
  • discover the rebel camp beneath one of the clones' village, facing the Imperium Machina
  • run through a first procedural and designed dungeon: a fortress of the Imperium Machina and to encounter new enemies: legionaries and their imperator
  • build the first vehicle of the game: an hoverbike (please see the new in game help for more information on how to build it)
  • explore the first planet of Stellar Overload's adventure: Merx with its new generation features and its new animals
  • gather many resources to craft new weapons, armors, ammunitions, tools and other items useful for the adventure
  • equip an armor in the new character sheet (C key)
  • switch weapon's ammunitions using the X key to optimize damage dealt to enemies
  • change the grid alignment used for tools and object placement in story mode or blueprints placement in creative mode using the alignment functionalities (V / Shift-V keys)
  • find every recipe, open every chest in dungeons and villages or by suppressing members of the Imperium Machina
  • take control of the Imperium Fortress and/or activate the Stellar Gate needed for the adventure to continue (in the next intermediate version)
  • appreciate the new musical engine, using WWise, that allow a better musical environment in the game (with dynamic and adaptive music)
  • make use of the improved in game help (H / F1 keys)


This alpha's Original Soundtracks are also available for listening on our Soundcloud.

Other improvements have been implemented. You will find them in the release notes on the download page.

We also opened new forum posts, where you can share all your feedback and / or bugs you encounter.

@Obie: Did you install other Unreal Engine 4 products? Try to uninstall the Visual Studio c++ 2015 redistributables, and launch the game again (which will install the UE4 prerequesite at startup).

If this do not work, take a look here:

They recommend to uninstall the epic games launcher, and try again.

This is a great alpha accept the fact I find it very confusing what to do one I have entered the temple.

I can't seem to get this to work for some reason... I installed it without incident, then when I went to run it it gave me an error saying that I needed to have UE4 prerequisites installed and asked if I wanted to install them now, so I clicked yes. It went through the installation for that, but then it gave me an error that said:

Setup Failed

One or more issues caused the setup to fail. Please fix the issues and then retry setup. For more information see the log file.

0x80070666 - Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel.

I tried uninstalling the UE4 Prerequisites files, ran it again and had the same error, restarted the computer and made sure there were no UE4 files, then ran it a third time, but it still gives me the same error. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong...

@Narkulus: You can have both the previous and new version installed on your computer. The only issue you might encounter is with your settings that might be reset if you play one version and the other since they will be stored at the same place but have changed between these two versions. As for your saved universes, those from the previous version will be incompatible with the new version and those from the new version will be incompatible with the previous version.

@Blubbll: Thanks for your comment, could you please post a more detailed feedback on the "Feedback on Blocky Blocade version" ( http://www.stellar-overload.com/forum/topic/1966 ) so that we can really understand which part of the gameplay you preferred in the Rokh Camp version and which part of the new gameplay you didn’t like.

I too am a little confused about this update. Did it replace the Rock Camp Story which I hadn't finished?

This is a horrible update :(

The awesome rock camp gamemode has been replaced with a crappy one, why not make them go along by each other?

Also due to the update the game became unplayable for me because of the lag.

The version before that ran really smooth, not it's just a laggy mess.

please fix these 2 issues if you can, thanks

@Chesterlots: for the vehicle, to avoid rocks, you can elevate your bike in air a little using the jump key ("space" by default).

The combat so far is really nice, enjoying it quite a bit! A little problem I ran into though is that there was no way for me to hold my weapon in my other hand, which made peeking and shooting around corners or doors on the right not possible, unlike when you take the left corner or door. Perhaps a button later to switch which side you hold the weapon so this is possible?

Vehicle controls are really well done! I imagine more aggressive turns will be possible with future vehicle upgrade implementations?

Also, I constantly found myself having to back up in order to turn away from a rock I rammed into with the hoverbike, which was more tedious than fun. Is there any reason why we can't turn without moving either forward or backwards? If not, it would be great to see stationary turning available for hover-based (given tires don't really work like that) vehicles.

will there be a steam activation key sent to us to add to our steam libraries? i really prefer having my game directly on steam and also it would help me remember to check the game out more frequently! thanks
